TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I believe any student of any age can achieve their musical goals while having fun through proper dedication and guidance. Private lessons are tailored to each student's unique goals and learning style, ensuring efficient progress and a deep love for music. My priorities as a teacher are injury prevention and efficient practice which both encompass one golden standard: eliminate mistakes before they happen

Injury Prevention

According to statistics, over 80% of professional full-time orchestra players have had a playing injury severe enough to cause loss of wages at some point in their life. And roughly 50% of studying musicians (conservatory and music departments) feel playing related pain at least 3 times a week. (Klein, Susanna). As someone who has and continues to deal with playing-related pain, it is of utmost importance that none of my students are practicing bad habits that lead to injury. That is why I continue to educate on proper practice habits, technical red flags, and have resources available to help string musicians.

Efficient Practice

Knowing what to do and how to do it in the shortest time possible is what I instill in my students from the very beginning up to the most advanced player. It is not uncommon for one to spend hours in a practice room and not get the proportionate amount of work done to the time spent "working." Often, musicians will doze off, get distracted, or simply didn't go in with specific goals. A key component in preventing injury and getting the most out of your practice is knowing how to practice efficiently.

JAZZ VIOLIN

Interested in learning jazz? Although quite niche, the violin was a member of jazz ensembles from the early 1900s onwards. At first only as non-improvised sections, but giants like Eddie South, Stuff Smith, Joe Venuti, and Stephane Grappelli successfully pushed for violin as a solo instrument.

Discover the joy of jazz violin today! Together we will learn jazz standards, jazz theory, and improve your improvisation skills along with your overall violin  technique.
